Went to Fripp Island this past weekend to see the beach one last time before it gets cold.  Great trip-we had an awesome time and got some well deserved rest/relaxation.

Here’s a video of Erin (she’s quite the star)

I was in a meeting the other day and one of my co-workers (Tom) was on his iphone the whole time.   The guy leading the meeting drove from North Carolina  to talk with us about our show.   I was embrassed because what would he think about Tom on his iphone.  I brought it up on the show and told Tom it was just like breaking out a book and reading it while someone was trying to have a conversation.   So as we where talking I started reading a book.  Tom said it wasn’t the same.   I feel that we have lost the importance of conversation  when we whip out our phones and start texting when someone is trying to have a conversation with us.  Its ok to look and see who it is and then say excuse me but I need to text this person back …….but most people just  take the conversation for granted.   And why is it when one person looks at their phone everyone in the room checks theirs.   It is like when someone yawns you sub-consciously yawn….same thing with a phone.              Lastly let me call Tom out about being an iphone show off.    Anytime anyone mentions a song Tom brings out the iphone and plays the song for you or if someone says I had a hotdog for lunch Tom will look up the ingredients or maybe where the hotdog originated.  I really don’t need to know all those facts. I do appreciate the effort but Tom please keep it to yourself.  Sorry I complained today I’ll try and be more positive  next time I blog.  thanks for reading Hawk

Today I ran in sand!  They added an extra workout zone to ASI on Patewood.  Usually, after doing a workout on all the speed flex equipment, we go outside and do some form of running.  Well, after a few weeks of construction, they turned the hillside around the facility into another workout zone.  A sandy one!  There looks to be a few different hills of various lengths that are covered in sand.   We went up what I believe to be the middle one today.  I was informed that there is a “big kid” hill on the other side.  Upon looking at it, it appears that nobody has run up that one yet….yet!  The hill is at about a 60 degree angle and the thick sand covers the area-about 20 yards in length.  We ran up that hill, then turned to the right on a flat sandy surface and ran to a cone (25-ish yards from where we came up the hill), then ran across the area to another cone that was placed 30-ish yards from the other.  We did this 5 times non-stop.  Quite the workout!  I’m sure my feet will be nice and smooth soon!

It’s great when they change it up.  Just when your body seems to get into some sort of routine-you throw some sandy hills at it.  I’m looking forward to Thursday’s workout.  I’m bringing my Dora the explorer pail and shovel to make some sweet sand castles.

PS-I tweet about my workouts from time to time…@chaseb937.

Might be worth seeing if it ever comes to Greenville?  I wont see it anytime soon though, I have a pregnant wife and docs frown upon bringing pregnant girls to scary movies.

Tom Steele Answers The Tough Questions – The
McDonalds™ Analogy

Why guys don’t want to be friends with a girl who breaks up with them…

I know a girl who broke up with a guy and she told him she wanted to “still be friends.” He said, “No thanks.” She wondered why he couldn’t fall back to being just friends after they had a romantic relationship. I came up with the ”McDonalds Analogy” to try and explain it in a simple way that would help all women understand this tough question.

Imagine if you went to McDonalds a lot and ordered a Big Mac Combo meal. A Big Mac, Large Fries and a Coke. You really like this meal. One day, you pull up to the drivethrough and order the Big Mac Combo meal and the girl tells you, “I’m sorry – you can have the Big Mac and the Coke, but you can’t get fries with that anymore.” You think about this for a moment, and sure – the Big Mac is the centerpiece of the meal, but McDonalds has some really good fries and you like their fries with your meal. So you say, “I’ve been able to get fries with that before, why can’t I have fries with my Big Mac combo anymore?” The girls says, ”Well, I just think it is better if you only have the Big Mac and the Coke from here on out.”

At this point, a lot of guys are going to go to Wendy’s or BK and see if they can get fries with their combo at that drivethrough window. But there are some guys who REALLY like McDonalds Big Macs and they might think, “If I keep coming here and ordering the Big Mac and Coke, maybe she’ll change her mind and give me some fries with that later.” So they will keep on getting the combo without the fries until the deal breaker happens: One day that guy is going to order the Big Mac and Coke and then he’s going to pull up a little bit to pay, and someone else is going to pull up to the drivethrough speaker and order the “Big Mac Combo” and he is going to hear the girl say, “Would you like fries with that?”

That’s why guys don’t like to be friends with a girl who breaks up with them.

There’s this guy named Frank Warren.  He’s a big time blogger and is somewhat a star in the blog world.  He’s coming to the Peace Center (www.peacecenter.org) and tickets are just $20.  Check out more about him here http://postsecret.blogspot.com/  He collects “secrets” from people that send him post cards and letters.  You can learn a lot about people (and yourself) from some of this stuff….check it out if you get a chance.  Should be a neat even.

I guess I must be on the wrong page on this “clunker” stuff …

A vehicle at 15 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 800 gallons a year of

gasoline.  A vehicle at 25 mpg and 12,000 miles per year uses 480 gallons a year.  So, the average clunker transaction will reduce US gasoline consumption by 320 gallons per year.  They claim 700,000 vehicles so that’s 224 million gallons per year.

That equates to a bit over 5 million barrels of oil.  5 million barrels of oil is about ¼ of one day’s US consumption.  And, 5 million barrels of oil costs about $350 million dollars at $75 per bbl.

So, we all contributed to spending $3 billion ……. to save $350 million.

Hmmmmmmmmm. How good a deal was that?  But, I’m thinking that they will probably do a great job with health care though!
