Wow, what a week!  Celebrities dropping like flies (which is a dumb thing to say because the flies at my house seem to be doing just fine – not sure why they have a reputation for “dropping.”), Mark Sanford’s most personal secrets revealed and the Fourth of July is almost here.  There is so much to talk about, I hope you have been listening for the latest on all these things on the show each morning.  If not, here’s a quick summary of the big news for this week:

Ed MacMahon, passed away at age 86 of cancer.  Sad, but at that age you have to start figuring you are going to die of something.  At least we hear he had gotten out of debt before he passed.

Farrah Fawcett passed away at age 62 of cancer also.  She had been in the news for trying some alternative treatments in Germany.  Cancer is a lousy deal.  We don’t really have a cure for it and when it gets down to the wire people will try anything to see if it works.  And yes, I had one of her posters on my wall growing up.

Michael Jackson died at age 50.  Surprise death, caught everyone off guard and we’re still not sure what caused it.  Some people see it as the passing of the King of Pop and others have called in and said we were praising a child molester.  Certainly different takes on that one.

Also, I saw where the Police took a bunch of prescription drugs out of his house and they are investigating where the drugs came from – lots of Oxycontin and other painkillers.  I can barely get my doctor to write me pain relievers that I need for migraines.  How do people get large quantities of this stuff anyway?

The REAL LOSER in this deal is Joe Jackson, who looks like the worlds biggest jerk ever to live as he uses his son’s untimely death to promote his new record company.  Makes you think the allegations of abuse were probably on the mark.  What a worthless human being.

Billy Mays also died at age 50.  First thought was that it was a subdural hematoma after a hard plane landing caused some baggage to fall from the overhead compartment and hit his head but the autopsy shows and enlarged heart and heart disease.  So probably just a plain old heart attack.  Bummer.

He was quite the salesman and I’m sure you all remember the OxyClean and Orange Glo commercials that he did over the years.  Lately he had been pimping that “Mighty Putty” where you can pull a 30,000 lb. truck with it.  I’ve got some of that Mighty Putty but I haven’t got the truck to try that yet.  I think you can fix a coffee cup with it too, so I might break a coffee cup to try that.

And finally our buddy Mark Sanford – governor of South Carolina (as I write this) caught on an amorous Argentinian trip instead of an arduous Appalachian hike.  I think he needs to step down.  I voted for him, I liked his policies but I think this scandal is going to undermine his ability to lead.  Every day we learn more about other infidelities and we have more questions about whether he used taxpayer money to fund his trips to see his girlfriend(s) and it makes South Carolina look bad and he has to spend all his time deflecting accusations instead of running the state.  Mark, you really let us down.  I thought you were going to be President and I was ready to vote for you, but now you just seem like every other ego-driven politician.

Also, my wife would have kicked my butt to the curb and she WOULD NOT be welcoming me back.  So I guess that I am a little jealous of Mark for being able to play around that much and his wife is still willing to take him back – and he still keeps talking about that other woman in Argentina as his “soul mate.”  Did I mention my wife would kick my butt if I tried that crap?  It defies comprehension.  Politicians and rich people live different lives than you and me.

The King of Pop. No one will ever be labeled with such as high of an honor as this ever again. His voice was unique, his dance moves were untouchable and his style will never be matched. He had 13 number one hits and 29 top 10 hits in the U.S. Worldwide, he had 46 number one hits. This is not including the U.S. He was a musical icon of tremendous heights. However, some people will only choose to remember him for things that he was never charged with. They’ll continue to make jokes about him whether it be on a text message, on Facebook or on Twitter. Why choose to do this He’s dead. He can’t be hurt and will not hurt anymore. Let Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, rest in peace.

Michael Jackson’s death hit home with me this week.   You know we all have a appointment with God and  you never know when it is going to happen today tomorrow  the main thing is to  be ready.   I really enjoyed Michael Jackson’s songs and dancing.  I love the 80’s music and I think M.J. was one of the greatest entertainers of all time.   I know people have there opinion of  his personally life but I think now is not the time for gossip.  You know the one thing that continues to burden me about M.J.’s death is, was he ready to meet God in all his Glory.  I just want to tell everyone I know this week that your time as well as my time is coming and we should live everyday to glorify God the creator of the universe and Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for dying for our sins.  Everything is God’s.   He created the universe and he created man, therefore anything we create is His.  Michael Jackson had everything he could ever want,  fame,  fortune,  friends basically anything this world has to offer.   But now the only thing that matters to M.J. is….did he have Jesus in is heart.  I pray that he did.   My thougths prayers are with Michael’s  family right know.    Thank you so much for allowing me to share my heart with you I am humbled by your interest.  Take care and God Bless

On the show today I was talking about Mark Sanford’s mysterious disappearance and Kato mentioned that some people were saying the Governor might be having an affair.  I started to tell him that was ridiculous, but I thought before I spoke and instead made a more considered remark.  I said, “I don’t know Mark Sanford personally, but I would be very surprised if he was having an affair.”  Well I guess that I am “very surprised.”  I’m even more shocked at how it has played out!

We are supposed to believe that Mark Sanford is smarter than the average bear.  He has told us how taking the stimulus money (and not using it to pay down debt) is a bad idea.  Personally I believe he is right about that – but he did a terrible job of selling it to voters.  All anyone saw was “Mark Sanford doesn’t want to take 700 million in stimulus money from the government and it will go somewhere else.”  He wasn’t able to explain that the money is temporary and when it dries up in a couple of years, we will be left with huge expenses from the jobs and programs created by this newfound (borrowed from our grandchildren’s tax debt) money and then we will either have to raise taxes dramatically to fund the programs, or fire a bunch of newly-hired people and shut down a bunch of new programs when the money runs out.

So Mark was smart enough to see this even though most voters couldn’t get past “Hey, the government is offering us free money – take it dude!”

How can he be so smart about finances and so dumb about his personal life?  His wife says that she kicked him out of the house two weeks ago in order to draw a line in the sand and hopefully improve their marriage.  Maybe she figured if she threw him out, he’d realize what he was missing and want to come home to his family and quit seeing his mistress.  Instead, he hops the first plane to Argentina and goes off to see his mistress.  He stays gone (and out of touch!) so long that people start asking questions and then comes back and wonders, “What is all the fuss about?”

Now he has to confess his infidelity on national TV, resign his position as head of the Republican Governors and see his Presidential plans flushed down the drain.

I’ve heard people say, “He who is without sin, cast the first stone.”  Well, what if I haven’t done that particular sin?  Can I throw stones then?

I’m very disappointed.  I’m also angry.  Another looked-up-to leader, claiming Christianity as an important part of his life has publicily shown my kids that “everyone cheats” and “infidelity is separate from your public life.”  Well I don’t think that is true and I think Mark should go ahead and resign right now.

5 days a week for a year now. I’ve missed only a handful of workouts. I wake up every morning in the 5am hour, take a deep breath and push myself out of bed. Too driven to not go to the gym, but I listen to the “inner wuss” enough where I am willing to sit there for a few minutes and contemplate not going. On Tuesday and Thursday I workout with the trainers at ASI on Patewood, but on the other days, i go to a gym. I would be more likely to miss a day that I don’t have a trainer. I tell myself that if I miss a day due to pain or soreness, I’ll be more in pain the next day. In many ways, that is true. I don’t workout on weekends. Those are the days I use to heal up my body. Yet, those days consist of activities that require me to use my body. Last weekend I helped move my neighbor, this weekend I have about 2 hours of yard work that I need to get taken care of. Not complaining, just feeling run down and could use a break. Yet, the more I workout, the better I feel about my body. Ahh this double edged sword….

My goal for Father’s day? To do as little as possible. The reality? Who knows! lol

So far 2009 has been good to me.  I’ve seen Dave Matthews Band three times.  One of those times in right field at Fenway Park in Boston which has been one of many dreams of mine.  I am also very thankful that I still have a job.  Even if it means never seeing the daylight and saving alcohol consumption for the weekend.  I can’t complain.  And finally, I have had the opportunity to see a celebrity be himself on a live newscast.   Here’s to you Danny DeVito!  As you DRINK live on camera, I salute you!  CHEERS!
